View Full Version : Are there any fast but quiet Nvidia cards out there?

Using an ATI 4890 Vapor-X at the moment, but graphically I hate all the workarounds just to get it visually correct for video-making. However it is quiet compared to other cards I have used.

Outside of Watercooling, are there any quite but fast Nvidia cards (equal to 4890 at-least) out there?

Cheers, MP

S!

Last quieter ones I used were 9900-series. The GTX280 was loud under load. But there can be these special versions with better cooling etc. floating around.

As mention in another thread............

MSI N480GTX-M2D15

I don't overclock and use the Thermaltake Level 10 case.

ATI is promising new and faster cards for second half 2010 ,a new chip codenamed Northern Islands, as stated by AMD CEO.
TSMC will ramp up process technology to 28 nm in Q4 2010, allowing chips running with lower TDP.
It´s better to wait if you think of building a system for SOW.
Oleg probably will release in the next months the system requirements for SOW.( well, someday he has to do it, right?)
I don´t believe that SOW will not be optimized for ATI too.

:?: Does that mean:

"I don't believe SoW will be optimised for ATI?"

or

"I do believe SoW will be optimised for ATI?"

Well I was trying to say that SOW will be optimized for ATI too.

That's what I thought you meant, but the double-negative got me...

;)

I hope you are correct, as I have a nice ATI card sitting idle simply because I can't use it properly for IL-2.

I have a 5870 and I dont change it for nothing , no corrupted words in IL-2 ,perfect mode...
Just waiting to SOW:BOB, I think this Graphic card can handle it

This could be wrong (and is my opinion only) but ATI has always seemed to have more problems with OpenGL games than DirectX games. Given that Storm of War will be DirectX natively... one would hope that the problems that we've had recently with IL-2 will be a thing of the past.

Qpassa, if your 5870HD works with IL-2 without a glitch, please post your conf.ini (opengl section) and driver version + CCC settings on the ATI thread? :) The latest Preview 10.4a did not fix any of the issues yet, blue hue and blocky text in Perfect mode.

Hi Alpha, only just had a chance to check out specs, and found this link:

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_gtx_480_470_performance/page3.asp

Noise levels in excess of 53 decibels and runs hot :(

Currently I'll have to fight through th graphic issues with the 4890 in IL2, as everything else is great. Thanks for the link though....cheers, MP

LOL

Ok you asked for advice, I gave it, you then point to a review which isn't anything to do with the hardware I have specified for you.

What's the point of this thread ??

I have no problems running IL21946 with a MSI N480GTX-M2D15

No excessive noise and no hot temps.

If you want to shove top end performance hardware into poorly constructed cheap cases with cheap PSU's the noise and temps could be a problem.

Otherwise buy a 9800GTX+

With settings at max & water 4 between that and a ATI 48xx series maxed out water2, it pee's all over them in IL21946. (IMHO)

Soz if I sound grumpy but ............... :)
