Whenever I join any servers I'm unable to fly certain aircraft such as TB-3, B-29, B-24 etc...choosing them doesn't put me in the cockpit, it just places me in the map. Choosing other aircraft puts me in the cockpit to fly. This happens regardless of whether the server allows mods or not.

Correct me if I'm wrong. You need the mod/s for those aircraft (in order to fly) if your using a vanilla 4.09 install? I thought IL-2 1946 came with aircraft such as TB-3, B-29, B-24, B-17 etc... I was under the impression the mod was only required if the server was using a modded version of such aircraft.

In stock 4.09, the aircraft are AI only. You need mods to make them flyable.

Or you can fly them from externals. But you have to select a flyable plane first (very old trick).

AI planes can be flown online without mods, but only through external (F2) view. As Icefire said, select a player controllable aircraft first, refly, and then select the AI aircraft.

If you are seeing the map, just press F2 and that should get you to your plane.

Keep in mind that this will not work on closed cockpit servers which do not allow any outside views such as Spits vs 109s and WarClouds.

The TB-3 however is a player controlled aircraft, so I'm not sure why you are having problems there.
