View Full Version : Game will not boot.
I purchased this game through steam. When I start the game, nothing happens. I'm running windows xp professional, 32-bit. I receive no error message. I have tried reinstalling, and running as administrator. I have tried using a different monitor. I have tried changing the values for the resolution in the game.ini file. I ensured my graphics drivers were up to date. I would like a solution.

I am having the same issue on a steam download on Vista (32-bit). The game simply does not start. No loading screen, no error, nothing. The process kb.exe continues to run, but never gets above 16mb of memory allocation (i'm sure it should be much higher!). I also have tried changing monitors, reinstalling, reverting and updating my graphics drivers, changed resolutions... Also, I e-mailed your support team two weeks ago, and have yet to hear any response, not even an acknowledgment that my e-mail was received!

Wow, posted in January and still nothing. I tried going through the "Technical problems and solutions!!!" thread but it's just too messy, can't read. Someone needs to post a thread with all problems and their solutions on the first post and keep it updated.
My problem is the same as these guys, game won't boot. No error messages, just doesn't get passed the loading splash screen. Bought it through Impulse, running on WinXP Pro with latest updates and drivers.

Try to change the game.ini file.
You need to set your default monitor resolution manually.
Just update the following lines:
setf ~screenresoultionx 1280
setf ~screenresoultiony 1024

That didn't do anything.
I recently re-installed Windows and forgot to update the chipset (still haven't), could that be messing up the game? Any other info needed?

Sure it can. Try to install all latest drivers and DirectX.

Everything minus the chipset software was installed. I'm guessing this bug is pretty rare or it wouldn't exist this late after release. Ironically, one of the reasons I like buying older games is because the bugs have been dealt with... =( lol. Is there any info I can provide you with that'll help you isolate the cause of the bug?
EDIT: ALL DRIVERS UP-TO-DATE AS OF NOW... and still nothing.

hey dude i registered specifically to help you out :)
i had this problem too and it turned out to be that i was using dual monitors. please tell me your using 2 monitors?!
the solution is simple, disable the monitor thats not your main desktop and start the game, it should start up normal
you only have to do this once. you can enable your monitor again at any time and then when you try and start the game up again, there should be no problem (even with your second monitor enabled) :)

lol, no unfortunately. So is it a monitor problem? The other solutions are to change resolution, and yours is to disable a second monitor. Hmm, I'm gonna try using a different monitor just to see what happens.

I've now bought two copies of the KB:TL, one on DVD and one via Steam, and both have problems. DVD version can't load some missions and the Steam version won't launch at all. I tried the GAME.INI change to
setf ~screenresoultionx 1280
setf ~screenresoultiony 960
but that did not help at all. I enjoy the game and would play it and the sequels, but that doesn't seem realistic given the problems I'm still having.

Pleasу send the Dxdiag to our support team (support@1cpublishing.eu). And what OS are you using?

Try this, it worked for me so it might work for you. I'm using Vista 64 bit, but I remember similar settings in other versions of Windows.
In the game folder, right click on the game Application and go to Properties.
Click on the Compatibility tab, and checkmark the box labeled 'Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution.'
Hit Apply.
Now try to run it. If you can get through to the options screen, you can change your screen settings to how you like. I've noticed the game has problems with anything greater than 1440 x 900, but that just might be my system.

All,
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
I was having the same issue where the game would not load. Here is the fix that worked for me:
It had been posted several times to change the game.ini file and input the resolutions manually to 1280 and 1024. I had done that in the main game folder BUT this is the wrong game.ini file to make the change in.
Go to your documents/my games/armored princess/game.ini file and make the change at this location. I did so and the game launched right away.
Nike-it, you're very helpful but perhaps posting this detail could have saved a lot of us quite a lot of grief.
Alright back to playing!
cheers,
DW

This worked for me as well!
I was trying to get the game working on my 2nd computer..
I ended up copying the game.ini file to the my documents folder and changing the resolution to 1600 x 900 (my laptop res) and then everything was fine!
edit: this was for crossworlds, noticed i was in the forums for The Legend;) But I guess the fix is for both versions;)

I bought the Platinum version off Steam this weekend and has a similar issue with King's Bounty:The Legend. Oddly AP/Crossroads loaded just fine. I got it working by doing basically what is outlined here. I'm running it on Win 7 Pro
1. Run app in compatibility mode (probably only applies to Vista/Win7 users)
1) Go to c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\King's Bounty - the legend
2) Find the kb.exe executable
3) Right click and select properties
4) Go to the "Compatibilty" tab
5) Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
6) Select Vista SP2
7) Click OK
2. Manually set the resolution
1) Go to c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\King's Bounty - the legend\data
2) Double click game.ini
3) the first two lines will indicate your xxxx/yyyy resolution in the form xxxx by yyyy. The lines should be
setf ~screenresolutionx xxxx
setf ~screenresolutiony yyyy
4) Edit these lines to indicate your desired resolution
5) Save the file
Relaunch the game and it should run.
I un-did the Compatiblity setting once the game ran.
