As above, I'm aware not everyone is an MW2 fan, but it is one of the most eagerly awaited games ever and with so few players already playing BOP and the fabled patch remaining illusive, will by the time its released there be anyone other than a few harderned stragglers left playing?

I have MW2 pre-oredered but Nothing and i mean NOTHING will divert me away from il-2.

I will be playing some MW2. I would be happy to take a few breaks from it and pop in some BOP if they throw the patch out there.

I hate to break it to you guys but MW2 is going to suck and fail badly. I for one wont be getting it on any system. Its an overhyped pile of claptrap, and the PC version got stiffed bigtime.

This, though I am getting this game, it's only because a lot of my friends are, and I got it at a lower price because of EB's trade in deal.
MW2 is so overhyped it's not funny. I mean DEATHSTREAKS?!?! Really? Rewarding the people who can't get a kill is ridiculous.

Still my friend MW2 will regular have 75 thousand + players on at any one time (guessed by the fact that COD4 now has 68K and COD5 has 62K), BOP for all its greatness is lucky to have 75 players at one time.
So if only a third of those people switch there time to MW2 (me included) then it will be all but impossible to get an MP game on BOP.

Hehe, I played the original and I hated it, but I have high hopes for Redemption. :)
As for MW2, I am definitely not getting it. As I said a few weeks ago, I think it's going to end up being MW with a 2 in the title.
And what's this about deathstreaks? If that's really in the game, I'm going to be laughing at Infinity Ward. ;)

CoD4 already gives you points for dying. IW new idea is to make it an actual feature of the MP, which is frankly farsical. If anything you should get points deducted and upgrades/unlocks and the like deducted for failure to survive.
Far to many games now are simply made for a quick buck and have lost sight of what games were supposed to be all about. The term "casual gamer" is simply a marketing ploy to cover up the fact that some developers nowadays are simply crap or lazy and dont/cant actually make a class title. Almost everyone by definition is a casual gamer, we dont play games for a living (although we would like to :D ) and up until recent times we never had a problem with a games "complexity" if it was a well made title.
Thats what drew people in to a game in the first place, not a fancy name and photoshoped gameplay pictures.
Oh thats not far of a rant there, woopsie. My bad.

Wow... Pretty bold statement seeing as how the game isn't even out yet.
Don't get me wrong... I don't think MW is the best game in the world... Nor do I expect MW2 to be the best game of all time...
But your statement makes no sense. MW2 is poised to be the #1 selling game of all time. (Unless you want to count Wii Sports into the equation)
Soooo... The game has over 2,000,000 preorders for both platforms... And that was a month ago. Yeah... IW is definitely on a death spiral. And like you Lex... I can definitely tell you that MW 2 is going to be garbage... Because we've both spent hours already playing it.
AND... If there's problems with the game... I doubt Infinity Ward is going to be able to put out patches to fix any issues. (That was a direct shot at 505)/Sarcasm
Lex... Your statement was just plain ignorant my friend.

Why do the two have to compete?
I have MW2 on pre-order, as do about a million other people.
But just today, I went out and purchased a lapdesk for my flight controller/throttle controller combo to make playing IL-2 more comfortable - because I plan to play two games over the next many months. And that's IL-2 and MW2.

For me MW2 will be the epic fail in the COD series.
Fully automatic weapons everywhere
No pistol as 2nd weapon, but shotgun or uzi  (just to add to the weapon overkill)
death streak  need i say more
more powerfull kill streaks than the chopper of MW1 (already hated that one)
MW was the worst COD in my opinion, the skills needed are just 0. 99% of the weapons kills in a blink of an eye, and have 100rounds per mag, and a reload time of 0.1sec. Adding to this the non stop grenade spamming, makes terrible gameplay.
Just give me WW2 weapons.... bolt action snipers that require skill, semi automatic rifles and maps that end in some long-ranged fights as well.
MW people keep on laughing about the MP40 in COD5, but all weapons in MW are like the MP40 in COD5.
ANYWAYSSSSSS, what i'm saying is 'nop, im not leaving for MW2 , im gonna keep playing some BOP and more 1946, and if the patch should come, I will play a lot of BOP :)

http://modernwarfare247.com/multiplayer/killstreaks-deathstreaks
After a set amount of deaths (3, 4, 5, &6) without a kill, players will use the deathstreak they have selected for their class.
They have also increased the amount of points from 10 pts per kill to 100, probably so it seems "cooler" to the 12 year olds that think this game was the first FPS ever made.
The best thing (and probably the only thing I will play regularly) is Spec-Ops. Two person Co-op levels which have some pretty cool twists, like one person controlling the guns on the AC-130 protecting their buddy on the ground.
And finally, to top that all of, they now have a game ending killstreak. The "Tactical" Nuke at 25 kills  Once used, the game will automatically end with a win for your team...

Take a look at the description for the AC-130 bonus:
"Deploys an chopper via laptop that the player controls. However, the user is defenseless while commanding the chopper."
:-P
EDIT:
I looked around on the website some more, and there will be a heartbeat sensor (fictional) you can attach to your gun. Really, the only thing I'm excited about is that they decided to include more than just the most popular weapons, and now will have guns like the TAR-21, FAMAS, etc. The FAMAS was my favorite weapon in Rainbow Six Vegas.

Its not ignorance my friend, its experience. Ive seen exactly the same circumstances of a dev houses failures and I see the same pattern emerging with IW.
You see its like this; First of all they have basically given the PC gaming players the finger and told them that there will be no basic PC features in the title, everything will be console generic. In other words, no mods, no custom maps, no dedicated servers, no admins.
What that means its that online its going to devolve in to spam fests and camping 24/7 with no way of sorting it (since no admins!). Coupled with constant rage quitters/hackers/bot users/total a-holes/ and TK buddies online mode is going to die a very very quick death.
Now you can say that the console sales should overway these factors, but remember this. Just because I may own a console does not mean I dont also game on PC. So I am one sale thats never going to happen on any platform. Now expand that to the general number of console owners and you seeing a sales hit already. If you go by the number of people who have signed the petition against MW2, and that holds true of lost sales then that is one serious financial hit.
Now Im not saying the dev house is going to die overnight, its not Flagship studios (what a failure!) but once you loose what is considered a core fanbase you loose respect. Similar design decisions are taken again and again, and it in turn alienates more and more of the fanbase till your hanging on by a thread.

I'll be playing MW2 without a doubt. Not as much skill involved as IL2 but at least your guaranteed a game evertime you search and if it needs patching.... it will be patched pretty quickly.
IL2 is just gathering dust now, i feel that weve been let down with the patch. I think this was planned!! it costs to release a patch, so they have been making us sweat and watching us drop one by one, now they will say "not enough player opr interest to warrant the patch, cancel it"
can see it happening already :(

All valid points Lex. I just did a bit of research and found all of this to be spot on. They are screwing the PC crowd. I doubt they are that concerned though. PC would only be a mild percentage of their overall sales even if they did take the time and cost to make them happy.
PC gaming is dying. We're left with MMO's and a few other niche genres. Gaming companies have all moved towards the console... Because that is where the money is. The average consumer gave up long ago on trying to keep a top of the line gaming rig.
IW is going to laugh their way all the way to the bank as they sweep the PC crowd aside.

I think this is bang on. I haven't played a PC game since maybe 2000 or 2001. The keeping up was just insane. You would go and buy a new game, and guess what? The freaking video card on your 1 year old machine wasn't good enough. Nor the sound card. And guess what? Now you need RAM. Ugh.
I moved to Mac aeons ago, and just buy a new console when the new Xbox editions come out. For the price of just and upgrade in the PC world, I get years of happy gaming on my Xbox. Sure, I had one die, once, so what? Still cheaper than monkeying around on the PC machine.
My Mac does all the other stuff a computer should do - internet, word, whatever, and by not being a PC gamer, I don't have to upgrade my Mac as often either. Which means I can buy all the Xbox games I want, when they come out!
Win. Just win.

I honestly dont see the problem in "keeping up" with the hardware. Ive got a 3 year old rig and its still giving me great gaming and good performance on pretty much every single game I throw at it. I havent updated anything other than adding in more storage space. And its not even a "top end" rig for its day, its a budget computer.
The only game Ive had any kind of performance problem with is Crysis. And practicaly everyone does, so thats no biggy.
My comps an AMD X2 @2.7ghz/2x1gb DDR2/ATi HD3870 512. I havent yet had a game on this system thats made me need to upgrade. This from a sub £400 PC 3 years ago.
Dont be fooled, PC gaming now has been pegged for ages. Its barely had any development done beyond console level.
I think the terrorist level where you walk around an airport machine gunning scores of screaming men and women is gonna cause MW2 big problems with certification...just seems a step too far...Makes GTA look like Rainbow Island (tm)
Activision has been pulling down clips off youtube left and right...

Heehee... Too bad in spite of all those players you're limited to tiny little 8 versus 8 matches on all systems since there's no more dedicated servers anymore. I agree with others here, MW2 is way overrated. I can't think of one important innovation that MW2 is bringing to the gaming world.
It doesn't have the realism, graphics or non-linear gameplay of Far Cry 2, or the destructible environments or controllable vehicles of Battlefield Bad Company or Red Faction Guerrilla, or huge player counts and the interesting future setting of Frontlines Fuel of War... the list goes on of shooter games which are superior in various ways. If I was you guys I would save my money for one of these games, or Battlefield BC 2 next year.
Make no mistake, I used to love the COD series when it focused on WW2 but lately IW has become so arrogant they have alienated the very customers like myself that built them into the powerhouse they are today.
And yeah, that airport scene is pretty disgusting, it was obviously thrown in just to drum up controversy and drive sales. IW and Activision should not exploit real life tragedies in their relentless quest to make money.

Ever hear of the philosophical apparatus Ockham's Razor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor)?
Applied to the question of this "update," it also suggests that it is not going to happen.
Occam's razor states that the explanation of any phenomenon should make as few assumptions as possible, eliminating those that make no difference in the observable predictions of the explanatory hypothesis or theory.
So.. this law is by definition not applicable to this subject, since there's nothing else than assumptions. Some assume they have the decency to publish the update, some assume they don't. Some assume the publishers don't find it worth it, some don't. Should I go on?
Your assumption that the quoted thread was locked is plain nonsense. First of all, this is the 1C forum, not 505, so it's not like they want to 'cover up' or anything. Secondly, a more probable reason is that the mods don't want, let's call it incriminating topics on this forum stating negative 'facts' that are not backed up.
Another thing that bugs me is that people say 505 won't make any profit off of the update. Of course not, we're not paying for it. The main reason 505 should publish the update is to try to keep their name up. They don't want to be known for publishing unfinished games without fixing it.
As for the money it costs to publish an update, I think 505 only has to pay fees to Sony and MS to test and distribute the update. It's all via internet, so there's no 'production costs' (for boxes and whatnot) or shipping costs.
Frankly, I don't understand why the update isn't here (big surprise). The problem seems to be in a networking error for PS3, afaik, and maybe it costs too much money to fix it, but it that case they would at least have the common decency to let us know, right?

MW2 isn't going to be broken??? haha. You can hack it with a simple hex editor... Do you remember those people that fly around the map? MW2 isn't even out yet and they have found an Invincibility glitch, and alot of elevator (get out of the map glitches) lol

MW was hacked right off the bat and was never ever strengthened. The one I saw was the "no clipping" hack were aimbotters litterally walked thorough walls to shoot people. Then they would proceed to spam the chat with link to their dodgey hack sites and proclaim they were gaming gods because they let the comp do the work
MW2 is going to suffer the same fate and worse, since there will be no-one around to remove hackers from a game. The proposed system is nothing more than a glorified auto-matcher, that will easily be circumvented.

There is an enormous difference between a game being broken because people have hacked it, and the game not being right due to poor design and lack of user testing.
Even if you hold the fact that people hacked COD4 against IW, they released a fix what within 7 days of the hack going mass public, this game has needed a patch for how many months?????

I was going to say the same thing as you (above) in response to him, but I didn't feel like dignifying his asininity with comment.
Kudos

I don't have a ton of time for games and Dragon Age:Origins might very well heavily cut into my BoP time. Just saw the vid reviews and its a lot cooler than I thought it was going to be!

For me, it is Demon's Souls -- man, is that game hard yet addictive and extremely rewarding!
I will have to put both Demon's Souls and BOP on hold though for MW2. I'll still play from time to time though.

Demon's Souls was a great game, no doubt, but it get's pretty old after a few playthroughs IMO. And, it's is the most frustrating game I've played to date  lol. Especially when trying to farm for different stones to get platinum... Damn that takes ALONG time  lol. But still, a truly rewarding game as you mentioned.
