Now I dont like to whine much.. but, I want to play the game, even if I aint so good at it.. I get into team battles and I simply am not very good at the dog fight. My thing is strike type of things.. I fly pretty good, but just can't keep an opponent in my sites long enough to get the kill... I was in a team game and ended up with a couple of hot dogs on my team. They were running around killing everything in site.. I don't want to begrudge them of their skills and kills. They were racking up kill after kill, and earning it. But, I do my best to get even one kill. I was getting on six'es pretty good and getting some rounds in my oponents, and working my tail off to get even one round in em.. It obviously takes me longer to get the kill. I would get them smoking and almost dead, when one of the hot dog team mates would swoop down and take my kill with one burst.. Damn guys, I know you are good, and I respect that, but let me get my kill I worked my ass off to get smoking at least..

Thats why you should fly the G-6, you wont have to worry about just damaging them. :P
What frustrates me is when I finally zero in on a target, about to waste them, and get blasted from the sky by one of his team mates.

Yeah kill stealing is a big problem for the lesser marksman (like me).
I assume you're playing arcade...? Your best bet is to take your favourite plane into training on realistic, and keeping notching down the elevator sensitivity until you can pull a full bank without stalling. Then get into, or create, realistic games.
You'll never look back after that guy explodes into flames after 1 second of gunfire :)

I think this game in particular was arcade. I like to play realistic, but today, I just couldn't find a realistic match, so I went ahead in the arcade match. I do prefer realistic. I actually fly better, and do get more kills in realistic.
As far as meaning win or loss, that damn sure wasn't the case, because we were on top something like 18-3. That is only because the two hot dogs both choose team A, and I ended up with them choosing random. But, it was 3 on 3, and they just zoomed around killing everybody, then swooping in to finish off my painful kills. It was getting irritating, and isn't the first time this has happened, but this time, just bugged me more. It is gonna get to where I wont even go into an arcade match, because I think most of them are the young gamers that like to do just what happened today. I think the Realistic, and Sim people seem to be cooler, and more "adult" players anyway. I have a couple teenagers I play allot with, that I am trying to get them into realistic more, but they are complaining about how hard it is.. I keep telling them, yeah, it is harder to get a kill I guess and keep your plane flying, but isn't that the point? If you like the other way, Ace Combat 6 can be had pretty cheap on Ebay now I think.. I dont' have a problem with people choosing teams to fly and team up with your personal friends, I do that too, but it is the hot dogging and taking your teamates kills, and flying like your ass is on fire in arcade that bugs me I guess, and I just tend to be loosing patients over..
But, no worries, it is expected me being an old man in a kids world, lol
P.S. I too like to go into training mode and put myself against 16 veterans. along with enemy ground flak and fire. I like to challenge myself, even if I do get killed allot. To me, living through a match like that is more fun than zooming around unrealistically like your ass is on fire...

That I have no problem with whatsoever. If I get killed by one of the enemy protecting his partners 6, so be it. Even tho ya might get a choice word out of me as I fall from the sky like a flaming meteor, but to me, that is a rightious kill, and I go down in all the flaming glory with knowing I got got... hehheh

Yeah, kill stealing can be an issue sometimes. I know I was in one game where the only kills this one guy got were from jumping on planes I had already gotten smoking.
Best advice for that problem is to try and play with people you know, preferrably ones with headsets. The group I fly with keeps up a lot of communication during team battles and strike matches and call out who we're after, or if we need help, etc. Helps keep kill stealing to a minimum, and helps tactics and coordination quite a bit.
Really nice for dealing with those damned biplanes when they get on your tail =P Just call out to a team-mate, straighten out, jam the throttle to outrun them, and let your buddy swoop down on them and blow them away. Me and a buddy in a 190 must have killed the same I-153 5 times or more in the same match with that tactic. Fell for it every time.
Co-op tactics work good on IL-10's too. It can only shoot at one of you at a time.

Yep, Iprefer team talk and strategy as well. I like to use strategic strikes, but getting some people to play as a team can be challenging. Some just get into the CTA and strike games and just fly around getting their kills. Not play the game as it was intended. I like to get with a team that we put together, because we had gotten very good at playing and using team tactics. Strike, I bomb, and a fighter or two stay with me to protect me from the buzzards while I strike, while other fighters say back to protect our ground... Same with CTA. my expertise is landings, some very creative avoiding fire, taking the field and then ground striking using small bombletts to protect it. Others in the team are better at air to air, so they take that on. My thing is hitting their people that land, and taking the landing myself.. Works out, and even though we do loose from time to time, but it is few and far between.. I like tactics and strategic over just death match type of play..

lol I lost count of the amount of times I got bombed by you in a CTA game tonight.
I had to play some arcade games for the first time in a long time (because its so bloody hard to find a game thanks to Operation Flashpoint 2 stealing all the online players) and I'm finding Arcade harder for me than my prefered Sim mode now.
Everything is so hectic and fast paced and everyone uses the 109-g6 because it seems to be the only plane that can blow up its target before someone spawns behind you in a G-6 and reaches out with god cannons and touches you and you die. So it goes like this. Spawn, dive, hammer the guy that spawned just before you, Get killed by the guy that spawned after you, Repeat.
Sim mode is so much slower, you have time to think. And without the homing markers, people can't just spawn and home in on you. It might seem so difficult at first ( It certainly did for me with Pedro the Goat murdering me at every opertunity) but after a few games you get in to it. I love it when I manage to sneek right up on someone and they don't know i'm there and on their map i'm hidden by their plane symbol. Then one small blast with the weakest of guns, makes it go boom.
CTA games also improve x100 in sim mode, with hiding on the airfield in smoke or behind a building becoming a usefull tactic. You have to be found and killed before the other side has a chance at taking the airstrip. It adds so much to the game. For me it is almost painfull to play an arcade CTA game now where even an untrained monkey could land, before a second later 3 bombs and two kamikazis fall on its confused face.

Sorry for joining this thread so late. I've played a number of times online now and feel the same you guys do. I may have 5 kills so far and especially in arcade matches, do just terrible. I have to rely on hit and run tactics to stay alive. Being an avid air combat hobbiest, I get frustrated at achieving so little. I always wonder if I am choosing the wrong aircraft or what. Although I know my immelmann turns could be alot better.

@ Robotic:
Wierd, I actually haven't seen many G-6's lately. I see LOOOOOTS of Hurricanes and Spits though, and a couple of those damned biplanes.
I do use the G-6 a fair bit though (Just always been a 109 fan), sometimes the F-4 for its manuverability if there's an unbearable amount of high-manuverability planes in the match. It just doesn't pack the punch, so you gotta keep on target. The G-6 is far from perfect though. It pays for all that added weight with its ability to turn. Its not hard to get behind one and blow it out of the air.
As for the pattern in Arcade mode...it just kind of depends. Its entirely possible to go through many matches and only get shot down a handfull of times. Personally, I crash more than I get shot down (get too aggressive going after people who hit the deck sometimes ^^; ). But yeah, I know I've had 13/2 games before in team battle. I think once you get used to the speed and franticness, you'll be fine. I imagine its almost like a new game after coming from sim. lol
As for CTA, that's where teamwork and coordination come in. Designating who is to try and land, calling out targets, focusing on bombers and attack planes, etc. Also, most kamikazies kinda suck (at least from what I've seen). Usually if you apply a little throttle, they'll completely miss, if they don't miss by themselves anyway. I love it when they completely whiff a kamikaze run and crash feet from me. I just laugh. lol.
That's why I really only fly with people I know, who all have headsets. We keep a lot of communication going during our matches and try to work together.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum, and I will admit I have accidentally shot down a team mate's quarry on more occasions than I care to admit. If you ever see me do it, I am very sorry, and will back off if I do see you after him (unless it's a B-17, then it's open game). Sometimes if I'm jumping target to target, I go after the quickest one I can lock on to. Only after downing them do I realize I just denied someone a kill, and I feel really bad about it.
And as far as your co-op tactics...I invite them with open arms. The IL-10 is the only thing I fly, and not for the tail gunner. And I seem to have an amazing AI gunner, he's downed at least twenty player aircraft while I was on someone in front of me. He's on his way to a raise!

Yeah, it happens to the best of us. Can't be totally careful all the time. I know I've accidentally killed my share of teammate kills, especially when we have the rare close game (most of ours end up being blowouts). I feel bad afterwards too.
As for the tactics, it really depends on the pilot too. Bad IL-10 pilots are easy to take down. They fly nice and straight trying to get tail gunner kills, and let you dive, climb and shoot them in their guts =P
...good IL-10 pilots actually put up a good fight, and manuver aggressively to keep their guns on you. Personally, I think you almost HAVE to double-team those things if you want to take them down with any efficiency. Even a G-6 has to hammer away at them to down one (in Arcade).
Now what I really love are people who try to bring medium and heavy bombers into a team battle or strike. Me and the guy I usually fly with LOVE to blow them out of the air with rockets >=D lol. Das takes pride in not seeing any parachutes pop out. Says he's saving the infantry some work =P. There was this one IL-10 in a team battle once, and Das must have blown him out of the air with rockets 8 or 9 times before the match was done. Das loves his rockets. lol

Das_Ubersoldat? Turncoat jumped ship on Rogue Squadron to join Hellhounds! Heh, the mate's alright, he's a good fighter and I love playing with him. As far as those bombers go, I am quite the nimble pilot in mine. I've flown over 200 matches in mine, and take great pride in being able to hold back B-17's in it. Axe99 and I actually won a 2 vs. 3 match with a B-17, He-111, and 109 G-6 on the opposing team. If the rockets miss, my hail of cannon fire doesn't. I know the weaknesses of my plane and I compensate for them. A plane can only do so much, it's up to the pilot to make a plane formidable. If you fly on PSN, look up Zeroptimus and we'll have a go one day. Might even be up for it right now. And yes...I love my rockets too!

Yep, that's the guy. Im a Hellhound myself.
That's how any good pilot should handle himself. The plane is only as good as the guy behind the stick. The IL-10 is a fine plane, and goddamn tough to kill sometimes. lol
I do fly on the PSN, gonna go ahead and add you. Might be fun to have a go, or fly with you sometime (do you use a headset?). If you have a squad you fly with, I know Das wants to organize some squad battles with other groups. Those are always fun. Fun to team up with other groups on larger battles too. I know we fly with Nephillim and his guys sometimes.
I love bomber hunting...especially in the P-47. If the rockets don't get them, the .50 cals shred them pretty quickly. I love my Jug ^^ ...still keep my 109s around for straight up dogfights though.

Yeah, I remember your screen name in a few of our CTAs tonight. Was it in arcade or realistic? Some of those matches were mine, and others were not. The realistic ones were mine, because I always go realistic on my matches. Some of the pansies I fly with still are scared and complain about realistic and I am working on them to make the jump, lol... I participated in allot of great matches of CTA tonight, but have to admit had my share of losses too, I apparetnly connected up with some other fine strikers, lol... But, I love it, win or loose if it is a good, clean intense battle.
Someone mentioned the freaking Kamakazis... I hate that, but also know sometimes it is unavoidable. One of my tactics is dive bombing, but not always though. Of course sometimes, it's difficult to pull out of a dive in time, and I have also hit the ground, but try not too when in a steep dive. It is very satisfying for me to get into a deep dive, hit the opponent and pull out of it in time and flay away...
One kinda not so bright move I saw last night however: Two opponents were on the ground, staggered a bit, but still in a diagonal line from each other. I saw this, swooped in, and perfectly lined up diagonal to them on approach. They were too far apart to get them both with one of my little bombletts, but with careful timing got to them, and "click" "click" released the two bomblettes I had, and got them both nanno seconds apart in one swipe.. When we feel the need to do two landings in order to split up the attacks, we make sure we are far apart, and not lined up so we can't get hit in one swipe like that. It should take two runs, or two diffent attackers... It was a fun and satifying hit hit though.. hehheh
I would love to get into another Sim CTA. The one I had the pleasure to fly in was awesome for the reasons stated. I just cant seem to find any. When I host a SIM match, I can't get anyone to join in... They pop in, see it in SIM, and leave. Either that, or I smell funny, dunno which, lol..

Im on X360 but if you come over to the dark side, look me up... I'll fly with ya.. I love realistic... I find now I can't fly in arcade... go figure.. lol... About half my team bailed on me, because they are reluctant to get off arcade, but a couple are trying to embrace it... Once you bite the bullet and fly only in realistic or sim for a few days, it then becomes second nature. The biggest thing to remember is go in training mode with your favorite flyer, and get the sensitivity set right... It is SO much more rewarding to fly in realistic and try to keep a bird in the air that is shot up.. Loads of fun..

Actually there is. I have been on XBox live for a little over a year, and haven't been on it much because of the young kids that simply just want to be punks, and talk allot of BS. Real jerks.. But, I got back on and been on nearly every day with BOP, because I have really been enjoying the on line experience with it. It seems that the BOP people are much friendlier, better sportsmanship, and appreciation. There are a few jack asses, and I will refrain from posting names, but there are a couple I have no use for what so ever. So, I simply avoid the couple ass holes out there. But they are really in the minority it seems with BOP on line.

For one, this game takes practice. I was horrible just a few weeks ago and got much better from playing and training. Another thing, be on mic and call out that you have someone. Your teamates arent trying to steal kills. We want to win the match. If you communicate we will avoid that target.
