Howdy,
I figure most of you play this game because you love warbirds -- which is why I started playing about two weeks ago on the PS3. I've been flying RC Warbirds for a few years and figured I'd share my collection with anyone who may have a similar interest. All the birds are on my website for anyone who cares to take a look. Believe me -- I'm alot better RC pilot than I am a virtual one apparently, because you guys shoot me down quite a bit. Hopefully, I'll get better with practice. Here's the website address: www.blitzkrieg-rc.com
PS. I always play with the 109s, because I'm trying to earn the G-10 and K models, but at the rate I'm going -- I probably won't get there till Xmas.

Been doing RC a long time now, but just got a few warbirds this last year. I've got a P-38 which has been quite a bit of fun. even afixed a video camera to the tail ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FuFRHh1JxE
I just picked up my new favorite a few days ago, the Parkzone Ultra Micro Mustang. Awsome little bird, and it flies in your front yard, and does touch'n goes off the sidewalk :) :) Not a video of mine, but this one is worth a look! They will have more warbirds on the way too!
Its the size of a pigeon! :)

MDBUEHLER,
WOW!! That little Mustang is too cool -- I can't believe I haven't heard about this till now. I just picked up my Parkzone BF-109G a few days ago (waited about six weeks for it) -- haven't even flown it yet, and I'm already thinking about that pigeon sized Mustang. You say there will be more of the little birds coming -- which ones? I'll have to run out to the hobby shop tomorrow and bug the crap out of those guys.
I've got the little E Flite Sopwith Pup that I fly on calmer days, and it is virtually unstallable -- floats like a kite.
As for the P-38, that thing is just plain cool. I've got the E Flite one that came out about 5 years ago -- but like so many others (Alfa FW 190D, FSK BF 109G, GP Hellcat and Corsair) -- I just haven't gotten around to building it. I always seem to stay about 6 or 7 kits ahead of what I actually have flying -- like alot of others, from what I've heard. I usually build the next one as soon as one gets "Retired".
Very cool videos by the way -- and thanks for sharing.

I would love to have a BF-109, but I have no experience with planes as I have run only nitro cars and trucks.
Is it hard to pick up? ALso, do they make a decent 109 kit for noobs like me?

mattmanB182,
This would be the perfect choice for you (Hartmann's bird). I just picked mine up (pictured) a few days ago. It has a 40" wingspan, and the details out of the box are great for a Parkflyer Class bird. Here's a link to that section of my website: http://www.blitzkrieg-rc.com/jv44website_228.htm
And here is alink to the Parkzone Page: http://www.parkzone.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=PKZ4980
I think I miss-labeled it as a G-6 on my website -- I think this particular plane was a G-14.
I should tell you though -- warbirds are not the planes to learn on. If you really want to learn how to fly, I'd go with a Hobbyzone Super Cub -- or some Bi-Plane (with just an elevator and rudder) of your choice -- because the wing loading is alot less severe. The low wing planes are not very forgiving -- especially the warbirds. They can be in a tree, in the ground, or in someone's car or house in the blink of an eye:eek:

I've been thinking of getting myself a 1:13 Ju-87 (what else ) from Flying Styro. The details seem very nice, and from what I've heard it shouldn't be too hard to fly with the right components.
http://www.flyingstyrokit.cz/frameset/nabidka/img/vojenske/stuka/b_stuka_obe.jpg
All of their (flying styro) models seem to have a high amount of detail.
It's "Almost ready to fly" so I have to do the assembly myself, something that I like. I'm not to confident with my flying skills though, I don't want to crash my cash...

JU-87,
Here are a few picks of one of my Flying Styro Kits (BF-109G, "Rita")
Man -- you're right about the details, but I wouldn't recommend one of these kits for someone new to the hobby (just my 2 cents) -- or basically anybody for that matter. There's a reason mine is still in a box -- just feels like if I look at it the wrong way, it might dent or crack. The foam itself is very similar to the stuff McDonalds used to use to package burgers in -- like egg carton foam. Another downside is their all-up weight -- which is super, super light -- it just doesn't handle any kind of wind at all. They used to be hands down the best scale looking models -- but companies like Alfa (you should see their new 109F) and even Parkzone (with their new 109G model) are making planes that really capture the scale appearance now -- and that are alot more durable (again, my 2 cents worth). Lastly, they are a pain in the keester to assemble -- compared to everything else out there. They do, however, make great looking scale models... The kits themselves run about $125-$150, then by the time you've added the Lipo Pack, Receiver, BL Motor, ESC, and Radio -- you're looking at another $250-$300, depending on how serious you want to get. I've been flying awhile -- and I've never seen one being flown by anyone else. It sure is a mean looking bird.
If you must have one, though, I do know once they are properly balanced they can be good flyers (on very calm days). I've only assembled and flown one FSK model (tip stalled on the maiden, a real bummer) -- which was the 109E, which was tiny compared to just about everything in its class.
Who knows -- you may be able to fly one like Hans Rudel:grin:
Again -- this is only my two cents worth, and we all know what 2 cents is worth these days... I don't want to discourage anyone from getting into the warbirds -- I just don't want to see anyone spend their money, then get frustrated.
mattmanB182

Well I am used to being frustrated, i have been trying to get my old Traxas T-Maxx into driving condition, with new fuel tank and fuel lines, but the steering is messed up. It turns tight to the left but not to the right hardly at all. I installed a new servo and still did not correct the problem. I am 23 and I have had it about ten years. :(
I am thinking about selling that and my Nitro 4-Tec to try to get money for a plane.
Thanks for all the info guys! I am just a bit short on money right not after buying a firing Mauser K98k from WW2.
I will keep looking for the proper kit for me, but yea I would hate to spend all that money on my dream plane only to crash on the first flight.
But even Erich himself was not known for being nice to his planes.

The Ultra Micros are $99 each without the controller, and $129 with one. Great deal! They also come with a battery or two, the charger, the box which doubles as a carry case. They fly for about 8 minutes on a charge, then recharge in 20. The batteries are just a few bucks a piece, so get 5 and you never have to stop ;)
I also have the Su-26 Sukhoi (ultra micro sport plane) and the Blade Mcx and the Blade Msr (the ultra micro helicopters). They are all crazy amounts of fun, and almost indestructable!
They have a 3d ultra micro on the way, and hint at more warbirds, but won't say which just yet ;)
Lucky dog, I was drooling over that 109 at Hobbytown a few days ago! Its HUGE and looks GREAT! The big fields are so far from my house I've been selling off all my big planes and going micro, so sadly I can't pick one up :(
If you want real frustration, pick up a heli. Most stressful thing I've ever flown! Hit the ground even hard and its $$$ along with a week of trying to make it flight normal again ;) The fact it can remove small limbs and dent cars with its spinning carbon fiber death blades adds to the 'experience'... ;)

How do you like the K98? I've got a PU Scoped 91/30 and an M44. Liked the Mausers, but the Mosins were practically given away as door prizes around here so went the cheaper route instead :)

DoraNine, thanks for the input. That's very good to know.
I looked at the Alfa models, and while no Stuka they look awesome too.
Considering what you've said those might be a better choice for me (alfa bf109 or fw190).
I've flied those Cessna-type beginner planes and that was pretty easy. I'm not too serious, so I don't want to throw down a lot of cash for something that disintegrates the moment I get it.
...So if I ever get spare cash a rc warbird might be a possibility. RC stuff is very relaxing!

Well I have not actually fired the K98 just yet. I need to clean it and oil it up. Also need to get some ammo. I cant wait to shoot it!! Still has all markings intact.

Hi, sorry about that :)
Yeah I've seen you online quite a bit recently, last night in fact. If I see you on my team, I'll try and watch your six as you hunt...

Infinite States,
You were definitely watching my six the other night -- as you were blasting me out of the sky:-x
As I've said in other posts, my settings are for "Realsitic Mode", and I don't bother to change them -- so you can only imagine what happens to someone who goes into "Arcade Mode" in a 109 with the sensitivities turned down. I feel like that bloody stuff they tossed over the side of the boat in "Jaws", when they were trying to lure the shark in -- I believe its called "chum".
At any rate -- you're definitely a few leagues ahead of me as a pilot. Sorry about robbing you of a few kills (I crash alot) -- but not intentional at all. I have to resort to alot of "stall" tactics when I'm flying "Arcade" -- and sometimes I end up in somebody's living room -- or splattered across their lawn. I could crank up the sensitivities and fly a Hurri II, or La-5n, or a Spit when I go in there like everybody else -- but I only fly the 109s because I want to earn the G-10 and K models.
Yeah -- if you see me flying arcade, and you need alot of shot opportunities, just watch my six -- because there will be a whole train following behind me:grin:

LOL no problem :) It's easy to tell the difference between someone diving into the ground to deny score and someone not realising their evasive maneouver is going to end in tears... I really do recommend you set your sensitivities back to max when you join arcade games though. It takes only a couple of seconds at the start of the match - before any hostile contact.

No planes (yet, that micro mustangs almost too good to pass up) but I flew a few gliders as a kid and about 18 months ago got a Walkera #52 that I fly indoors/outside if its very calm.
Call me a sucker for punishment if you want but its my first heli and I love it. Not flown much for a while after letting someone alse have a go its needs some spares and having a house extension built put my 'flying room' (living room to everyone else) into a building site.
I need to get some spares ordered.

A Walkera #52, he's a damned unstable heli... no? :!:
I've got a birotor LAMA V3, but it needs spare part as well, after a windy fly
That's the problem with those small helis can't fly indoor cause they are too big but can't fly outdoor either

Lol... but I'm sure you still crashed hundred of them in RealFlight ;)
Flight model of small Helis are not well coded, The birotor on RealFlight does not flight at all like my Lama which is really closed to the model in that Simulation though.
That's simple I can't move it fast in the Sim while I find my Lama a bit over reactive in real life

For you helicopter pilots (Benrizz, King Jareth) -- here's a few pics of my most recent heli project (same ones on my website). It's a T Rex SA 450 -- that I'm putting an MH-6 "Little Bird" body on. Should be super cool once its done. I will say this though -- this thing is fifty times harder to fly than any plane I've ever had. I'm on my 4th or 5th set of blades already -- and I haven't even been able to hover for more than a few seconds without getting completely paranoid. I've flown planes for a few years now -- but I'm a total noob with this variable pitch heli. I've got a few other smaller helis (a couple of Blades) that I've put Huey, MD-500, and Seahawk bodies on -- but this thing takes some real practice to fly. Until I atleast master the hovering -- the body will have to wait:cool:

imnotgeoff,
Best way to learn how to fly is with an RC Flight Simulator. Here's alink to one: http://www.realflight.com/
Its a lot less expensive than buying and crashing planes as a learning process -- and not nearly as frustrating. You crash in a simulator, and you just laugh and hit the reset button. You crash one for real (and I've crashed many) and it ruins your whole week. It also lets you fly several different types of planes. I've got an older one than the version I've in the link above. I don't know where you live -- but alot of hobby shops will usually have a flight simulator in their store that you can try for free.
Naturally -- these are my opinions only.

And that's a good one. :!::!:
Rc are expensive and it so easy to crash. You have to try on sim at least to get used of the controls and how it works. And how to handle reverse control (when the plane is coming towards you) - that's not very natural
You can connect your controler via USB
Once your plane is up in the air (which is not very difficult to acheive), that you have made some 8 and slow turn, remenber that you have to land.
And that's the big part lol

Nah landings not hard, unless you planning on being able to take off again then it gets trickier .

Good advice, esp after playing BOP where controls are swapped. I don't think anyone should ever invest in an rc plane BEFORE buying something like real flight and getting some virtual hours racked up.
I'd say by the time you learn how to hover a virtual 3d plane from all angles, you have a solid understanding and muscle memory to fly your first RC plane - you can probably even start with a low wing model coming from the RC sims.
I put in a solid week (probably 3 to 4 hours a day) of Realflight, got to the point where I could land, take off, and do all the 3d stuff with the 3D planes before I picked up my first RC plane (Precision Aerobatics addiction - awesome plane if you like to show off). My first 10 flights went off with no problems, my only wrecks have been due to pushing limits (all easily repaired too)- not due to any control confusion on my part.
I credit that with the time I put in with Realflight. These rc flight sims are awesome tools that the old school RC guys probably wish they had when they got into the sport.

Another vote for the free RC sim. They make a great one for helicopters too (also free) called Heli X. These will save you a BUNDLE in the long run.
There's even a simulator on Xbox live Arcade you can download that is good for a start. A little arcadey, but it will teach you the most important part, which is orientation and control when flying AT you (gets most new pilots, myself included!).
I've got an 8 yo son who played around in my simulator, and we can now fly out in the front yard. He has a two channel, moving up to a three as he has it well in hand. Lots of fun! :)
Be sure to check out RC dogfighting too! I have the 'Sonic Combat' modules from parkzone. You get on another planes tail, pull the trigger on your controller and if you hit him, his motor turns off for a few seconds sending him doooooownn.... :) Loads of fun! I believe it works with all the new warbirds they have too. Just waiting for them to port it over to the micros. Also have a bomb dropper, onboard camera... The fun never ends with this stuff!

How true!! The fun never ends with this stuff. I've got RC cars, trucks, tanks, motorcycles, helis, etc -- but there is just something special about flying the planes. I purchased the Combat Module when I bought the PZ FW 190 about 4 or 5 years ago, but never got a chance to try it out -- because I could never find anyone else who had the same set up. So its pretty cool. I take it?

I know a guy who used to participate in similar RC "dogfighting"... Not as high-tech as sonic combat though.
His group used bright and very thin strips of paper (streamers?) attached to the tails of their planes. Each plane had it's own color. In order to get a kill you had to get on someones tail and chop off the strip with the prop. If you "died" you had to land and wait until the game was over.
I think this variant is pretty common amongst those interested in RC dogfighting.

Smudgyboy,
That 190 is a very, very, impressive looking plane. I'd love to add something like that one to my hangar. I might have to add this to my Xmas list. What's the wingspan on that thing? Have you had any issues with the quality -- or are you happy with it? What kind of motor are you using?
I see you have a pair of T Rex's (450 and 650 I presume). Judging by the hardware -- I'd say you actually know how to fly them (I haven't gotten past the Hovering stage yet with mine). I'm having the worst time just getting mine set up properly on the radio (Spektrum dx6i). What radio are you using for the helis?

The best thing is to have someone with experience to lend a hand but failing that have a look at some of the videos on this page for heli setup, really helpful:
http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=41692
I've got a 450 size heli that I've been flying for the last couple of years (prior to that years earlier I had a Hirobo Shuttle, it had a mechanical gyro that's how long ago it was) and use a DX7 although my brother has the same heli as me and I set his up for him on a DX6.
