So is it near impossible to find a game online that's sim mode only? Hell, I'd even settle for realistic. But everytime I try to find a game it tells me that the IL-2 servers are not responding and to try again later. I knew that Sim mode wouldn't be nearly as popular as arcade, but I assumed that I'd at least find a few games by now.
I see that a lot of you are talking about playing online; are most of you playing in arcade mode (either by choice, or you're having the same problem I am)?

PS3 or 360? There are a diehard few people on each console who are dedicated to Sim so search for threads, add friends and get in a few games that way. Then add anyone else who joins and dont be afraid to join games/parties uninvited ;)

I have never played 'arcade' and manage to always get a sim or realistic game. The 'IL-2 servers are not responding' is a bit misleading, it really means that there are people playing but you can't join (because the game has already begun). Just host up your own game and people will join for sure.

Yes, as Soulsurfer said, host your own room and people will usually jump on. I fly in Realistic every night usually between 7:00 – 10:00 PST and have no problem finding pilots who want to shoot me down. Also, don’t try going up against Soulsurfer…he will cut your wings off in about two seconds…:)

i got kinda laughed at in another thread for this, but i really think they should let people join late to keep the games more full. when there arent alot of people playing it makes more sense to have 4 games of 10 going then 10 games of 4. know what i mean? especally if someone drops out? then you are screwed with no change of reinforcment.

There is logic in what you say, but if people would be able to join in-game the whole team setup would change every minute. Although that may not be such a big problem for most people, it could ruin a game where there's actually team tactics and communications. There's a lot of pro's and cons for both ways, but I understand they chose not to let people join in-game.

This does make a lot of sense, if not only for the fact that then games in progress would become visible. The main problem is that people familiar with the online set up of this game are generally in a game. This makes them invisible to people looking for a game, and makes the online appear dead.
When you get in sync with games beginning and ending you can play non-stop. Game lobbies only sit there collecting players for a small fraction of the time before they launch into a 10 or 20 minute game (discounting the 3 minute unlock wh*res - but even they will have a quick turn around lobby side). If you can't find a game to join, make one and eventually a load of people will join within quick succession.
Maybe the best option would have been for a player cap to be set at whatever the total number of players was at game launch, then to allow late joiners...? That way quitters could be replace without an influx of players joining when their game ended, ruining your quality little 4 or 4 or whatever.

Joining a game in progress should be an option the host can check while setting up the room. (allow join in progress YES/NO)
Player matches should allow this while ranked games do not.
Maybe for the sequel.

Well, I just had my first victory in Sim mode on line. A strike mission with the B-17, which was fun. I at least found one target and got a couple bombs off, but didn't do a whole lot. Then went into a Sim CTA match and actually for the first time was a contributing competitor. That was really fun. I got a legit kill (non-accedental) and several landings, the last one which took the field back for us, and I was able to hide without being seen until we took the match at the buzzer.. that was a blast. I hope to do some more of that, and actually be more than a crash test dummy.. lol
Thanks for the invite House MD.

I was playing on the 360. I guess I'll have to make my own game, I haven't tried that yet. I'm so used to matchmaking in most console games where they don't even give you an option to make your own game, (in ranked matches atleast) that I guess it never even occured to me to try it. Thanks.

This game is good anyway, but when you start settling in to simulation mode and scoring kills it really gets it's teeth into you, in my opinion.

That was an Awesome CTA game, Closest i've been in. You really did win it for us at the end there, I think we had about 19 tickets left when you captured the airfield, and by staying on the ground hiding, the 2 guys that landed couldn't get it back before I killed them and we took off their remaining 150 or so tickets. Thanks to House also for his own tactic used against him lol :P
