View Full Version : Use limited fuel and ammo in on-line game
I try to use this option but when gaming i take more difficulties for finding airfield.
I presume (for refule and reload) need to come back to the airfield or not?
Sorry for my english!
Unfortunately, you can't rearm or refuel at airfields. The only way to get your ammo back is to die!

playing online, you cannot refuel/re arm.
once you run out of fuel/ammo then all you can do is die, and then respawn with more.
Another ncie feature the team threw in :D

everyone please mention to developers on developers thread im sure a lot of people would like that option on team battle and strike, i like using limited ammo and fuel it makes u have to aim and shoot burst insted of just firing till ur guns overheat it makes it more tactical it just sux u have to bail out to get more ammo they should mark airfields in team battle and add the option of rearm refuel

That could create some EPIC online battles (provided enough people join). Opponenets would not be continually engaged in battle due to the need to land, re-arm and re-fuel. That would make for some very interesting tactics, i.e. chasing a bandit to his airfield, bombing an airfield, etc.
I would love this option.

I hope they re-introduce landings in the sequel. Take-offs not per se, but the landings would be nice. The score system in IL2 was flawed, but the general idea was ok: if you land you get 10x more points for a kill than when you crash. Big motivation to land :). Something similar would be very nice. It also made bombers useful in 'Team Battle', since they could bomb the apron and runway.

I've been in and started a few matches with limited ammo (never tried fuel) and it makes the team battles MUCH more intereseting. Instead of spraying when they're 1.5km out, you wait until you're sure you have a shot. Much more realistic, and alot more intense as you have to weigh the odds of you hitting them vs how many bullets you have left. Its my preferred setting now.
As for reloading? I usually kamikaze one of the other guys as opposed to just crashing. Really helps you with your manuevering skills too, as you have to literally get ON their tail to do it ;)

I see your point about it making things more tactical, but without any way to re-arm other than to die, it makes this option utterly pointless in my opinion.
The other day I was playing a 1v1 sim dogfight and got on the other guys six for another kill, pressed the trigger...and nothing happened. Very annoying as I didn't realise it was limited ammo. So I followed him around for a bit then ditched.
I do like the suggestion of airfields for team battle, but would it then just turn into the bombfest that single airfield CTA matches do?
Generally I will leave a lobby if I notice it's limited fuel and/or ammo. You're lucky to survive that long anyway, so why force me to end a streak because of what is currently basically a forced time limit?

Every game mode i set up (simulation) i always use limited F/A. really steps on the toes of those "noobs" that so much like to spray everything.
So whenever i see somebody set up a game the same way, i hold nothing but respect for the player and therefore makes the match alot more enjoyable

It add to the fun in gameplay. You have to get close before you shoot, or you will waste precious ammo.
This gives more chance for the prey to avoid the predator. And also, it give you reason to try and avoid gunfire. Normally when I have a better turning plane on my six, I just let him 'chew me up' (will try to turn a bit, but wont go rolling etc) if I cant see any other target. If it is limited ammo, I will jump and dance all around, hoping he will run out of ammo.
Why do you care about a streak?it wont give you anything... Do you think it is more fun to have a streak, then to actually have to dogfight to get your kills?
I prefer someone on my six running out of ammo and crashing to get new. Then to have a guy who starts shooting with his G-6 from 1.5 km, and keeps on shooting for 5mins. Even a monkey is bound to hit something if he does is like that (and 1 with form a 30mm can be more than enough) As long as ammo-less people crash when they have no bandit on their 6, its all fine by me.
Dont get me wrong, I like unlimited ammo also, but limited ammo increases the experience. It increases difference between rookie and ace, and most of all, increases the need for a REAL dogfight.
EDIT:
Sure hope they make some re-arm option in the update. having to commit suicide ---> get a -1 penalty for it ---> just to re-arm, would ruin the limited ammo option :(

Couldnt agree more. Whenever i run out of ammo after long periods of flying, i usually land on the nearest airfield/field and bail out.
Maybe its just me but that way i dont feel dirty for crashing

I totaly agree with Morgoth. Another thing limited ammo adds is another dimension in the planes weaponry, As not all planes have the same amount of ammo. So do you take a plane with lots of guns that run out quickly, or do you choose a plane that has less guns but with a good amount of ammo.
I think one way the developers could easily take care of the problem of having to die to re-arm, is to have a re-arm option next to the bail-out one in the menu. You then get respawned with new ammo and no penalty points, but you keep any damage you had previously aquired. Obviously this isn't great but it is do-able, For a secual a proper return to base and rearm sysyem I think should be used.

Well when you put it like that it does sound quite cool. I guess I've been conditioned to care about kill/death ratio a bit too much. Plus, I'm that shooting monkey... :-P
I might give it another go, and challenge myself to see how many kills I can get on one ammo load. But come on - limited fuel is bloody pointless... That really is like lighting a fuse on each and every plane. Maybe you could argue that you should choose a plane with a lot of fuel? Maybe the P51 might actually have a use after all lol

limited fuel is pointless ;). I've only 1 time ranout of fuel. This was when it was limited fuel/unlimited ammo. I was flying the whole game without dying, and just in the end my engine stoped (not because of too much wep).
Most planes have enough ammo for an average of 3 kills. some will go down in a 1sec burst, others just dont want to die :p. So unless it will take you 20 mins to get those 3 kills and not dying, you wll run out of ammo way before you run out of fuel.
Maybe the me163 is bothered by it:confused:, in real life it only had 7 mins of fuel.

LOL! That would be epic. We should try that out.

i too dont like crashing when i run out of ammo ? i used to just fly in a straight line trying to pick up a bandit works most of the time ..
so is it frowned upon to bail out if you run out of ammo ??

Not at all in my opinion. As long as you make sure there's no one on your six there's no reason not to bail/crash. Some people like to use their plane as ammo, which is also a valid option :P.
