I think it's fantastic that it came out really. I appreciate it.
I think it's wonderfull that il 2 get's the full support is deserves. So this is not meant to be negative.
But I have a question. Is 4.09m worth all the trouble of reinstalling. I just had to reinstall last august.
Is it an improvement over the 4.09 beta with the unified installer?
Is there an easy way to install them both? Just installing it on a different place on the harddrive?
Thanks for the answer.

Install new patch over V4.08 only...

Why bother reinstalling...just make a copy of the directory. There are no necessary registry keys associated with IL-2. I did this for a while...had a 409beta and 408 regular directory and that was just fine.
But the 4.09 official release does need to be installed over a clean 4.08 version.

As the others have mentioned, there is no need to reinstall.
There is also no need to have two huge separate game directories.
If you are concerned about being able to join different servers until they all move to 4.09m... a simple bat switcher is easily made to switch between 4.08m, 4.09b1m and 4.09m.
You can use the simple one on this site if you like and/or modify it to your needs.

I'm sure other fancier switchers will be out soon as well.

I dont think I am going to bother with the patch personally, there are 2 many great modded servers out there such has spitv109's that use the channel map, unless of course they all switch to 4.09m I'm going to stick with what I got becuase I think its better. Hopefully one day they will include these new maps and aircraft and other great mods.

while the patch does not have the stuff I hope for.. it does have enough goodies to make it worth flying..
You can always have 4.09 with mods, and 4.09 clean..
it's worth having both..

Thanks for the replies.
I guess I have to experience it myself anyway.
But I'm not entirely sure about a couple of things.
What does this mean (quote from HanzBlixz)?
'just make a copy of the directory'.
Can somebody explain what I must do to have my version, without touching it (4.09b plus unified installer) working along with 4.09 official?
Can I install a clean 1946 with 4.08 to a different location? Just installing into another location than my existing install? Is that it?
Thanks in advance,
Wiwa

Really got to LOL.
You guys demanded the patch, you wanted it for months, infact years, you wanted a signal that IL2 is still alive, that MG is still improving the game and does not abandon it in favor to an upcoming title with a "limited scope" and now it's out, you don't want it, because it causes too much mischief because you rather want to keep the crack?

Hi,
I might understand your reaction. That's why I stated in the beginning that I was thankfull for the patch... It really is fantastic that it gets this kind of support and that it's kept alive like this, really. I believe that il2 can go along for a long time this way. Considering the visuals are always improving, certainly with the new maps, brilliant. And.. I wasn't waiting for it for years. It was a month ago that I first heard of the patch. I've been flying Il2 for a long time tough.
But I fear that your reaction might draw away the attention of my previous question. A question that beholds the real reason for this topic. So.. here it goes again.

I checked this out:
'Pylon/bomb racks weight fixed -> better climb and takeoff performance for planes armed with external ordnance'
and I really can't feel any difference. I guess if we took some software that measure performance and see what the numbers say, but I just could not feel any changes..
I tried many, many planes, with different loadouts and without, and even off carriers...
btw, stil no improvemnet on taking off on carriers with weapons... you will go swimming with lots of loudouts..
climbing rate just cannot be determined by feel... in comparison between before patch and after patch..

I don't think Feuerfalke was replying to your post wiwa23.
As for the directory, I can tell you how I would do it.
Go to your modded IL2 directory which would be something like: C-Drive/Programfiles/UBISoft/IL2Sturmovick1946 (something like that) and simply rename the folder "IL2Sturmovick1946" to something like "IL2Sturmovick1946MOD" then you should be able to install a fresh version of the game since your system won't find the "IL2Sturmovick1946" folder anymore (since you renamed it).
This way you can have shortcuts to both versions on your desktop.
Or..............if you lack the hard drive space you can use a switcher batch file so it is all in the one directory.
I simply don't use the switcher option since if one of the mods messed up my game, I would have start the whole thing again with fresh installs if I couln't fix the problem. Having two versions is less of a headache since you always have an unmodded version working.

Hi Nightshifter,
Thanks for your reply! However, I have a question.
I did the things you said (renaming it) but when I want ot reinstall I get the question 'Do you want to completely remove the application and all of it's features'. I can do this?!
So it recognises my install. But its ok to do that? And when I want to switch between the versions I just rename the folders, right?
Thanks,
Wiwa

Hmmm, technically it shouldn't be able to un-install your game since it won't be able to find the original files, since you re-named the folder. This is definitely the way I did it though.
Also, you won't have to rename the folders to use the different versions, just go into each folder and send a shortcut of the IL2.exe from each folder to your desktop and you'll have access to both versions easily.

Ok, thanks!
It worked just perfectly! So I have two versions up and running. I named the main folder ...il2 1946 MOD. When I installed the orginal I had to remove the application and all of it's features...;).
But no problem. The folder remained (I did make a backup anyway) and now I just tried both of them by renaming the folder to their original before I launched the game/sim.
I will try what you said to make switching even more easy. 'just go into each folder and send a shortcut of the IL2.exe from each folder to your desktop and you'll have access to both versions easily'.
Thanks for your reply!
