hey guys,
Im not such an expert in this stuff, so i figured I would ask you guys.
In the title update there will be: low lod for aircrafts tuned (to be more visible on SD resolutions).
Now, I do have a monitor hooked up to my xbox, but its a pretty old 15" screen. I have started playing sim mode since this week, but I am forced to play realistic, because I just cant see the planes on my screen :(.
Mostly because my screen is just, well, small :P.
Do you guys know if this upcomming 'fix' will also make the planes more visible on my small monitor? (cause I have no idea what this fix is doing :P)
When you see a plane in the distance, it is a pretty obvious black dot (wich even I can see ;)), but when it comes closer, it is completely invisible. Will the fix prolong the appearance of the big dot?

I know this doesn't answer your question, but if you live in the UK, Macro did an Akura 32" Plasma TV for £200. If they don't still do it, check their bargains section, There is one in Portsmouth and one in Leicester, I'm sure there's a boat load of Macros around the country but I've been to these two.
anyway point being hunt around and you can get a 26"-36" TV for between £150-£250. If you have some savings it might be a wise investment.

Thanx for the advise, but I indeed kind of have 0 budget for a new screen. And even if I had, I wouldnt buy a new one. I'm studying in spain, but live in holland, cant have any more stuff here that I have to ship back ;).
soooo, plz anyone... tell me my 15" angel will do the job after the fix

low level of detail... as far as i know, that why i supposed it is about the black dot you see when a plane is far away

LOD = Level of Detail.

low Level Of Detail I THINK the fix will be to allow the plane to be seen sooner, but in a simplified (fewer polygons) 'model' at distance.

This is actually what's happening now. The problem is the planes just disappear for a while after switching to high lod, for players with lower quality screens. So first you see a nice black dot, then nothing, then the plane when it's really close.

I dont want to see it sooner, I STILL want to see it when it comes closer :P. just hate it to be able to see someone at 4km, but him being invisible at 2km. makes no sence
sooner is ok, but the ability to still see it up close, is what I was hoping for

ok so it means low level of detail hmmm wonder what effect this will have to someone using a hd tv ?? my prob with sim is spotting them at distance once im up close i can follow them do a quick id check then if its a bad guy move in for the kill ......
so do you think it will make it easyer to spot em at a distance ???

I think, and hope it will be easier to spot them in the 0.5 - 2 km distance. Now, when you see them at 4km, you see them clearly as a black dot, but when reaching 2km more or less, it disappears. I hope the black dot will stay till the plane is so close, you can see it anyways.
But i dont know, thats what im asking :P

Hi MorgotNL,

my guess is that the black dot will stay too which is so great. It will definitely changes the balance of power. We poor old Tv owner will conquer the online SiM battlefield.
But MorgotME my guess is that the fix is for Low Def screen only which means for screen with a low definition whether it is small or large. (bad luck for you)
If you 15" Monitor has a high def such as 1280*1024 I'm not sure that you will enjoy the update. (Maybe 1024*680 will be not enough "low def" as well)
Well, wait for the update, and if it doesn't improve your visibility, You could buy wether an old (but large TV) - or an old, but large, cathodic monitor (19" or even 22"). For 20-30 Euros I'am sur you can find something in Spain or in Holland. Thanks to the flat screen revolution. ;)
But wait for the update I will tell you if it really improves the visibility, I'v got an old TV. not very large though

the resolution of my monitor is just 1024x768, so that is pretty low :P. And I do have a television in the living room, a 24ich if im correct. (also a very old one ;)). After the update, ill check what makes sim best playable :)

My interpretation of this update is that the plane will be more visible once the black dot has gone. See, the black dot is some sort of assistant sprite - it's not a LODed model. When the dot disappears and you can no longer see the plane, that is when it's switched from assistant to LOD model.
My guess would be that they have simply made the LOD models darker the further away they are. But that is just a guess.
Also, I would be hugely surprised if this fix applies to only SDTVs. It is to help SDTVs but I can't see it only applying to them.
Guess we'll have to wait and see :)
