ok and im not talking about any IL planes either. last night i was playing online and i chased a guy for no sh!t 20 minutes. and i landed maybe 1 bullet on his plane. causes black smoke. it was nothing but one big loop around frustrating chase. i got shot down once... due to my swift manuvering. i seem to be much better at avoiding bullets then i do firing them at my enemy.

here is my problem i cant make my (bullets) hit other (airplanes) i just cant make it happen. my joy stick overcorrects my aiming and i shoot too far. and i shoot too near. and then i lose them because for some reason every one seems to have an airplane that is more agile then mine.

i have seen some people flying strait up. and then they do a perfect 180 and come right back at me and just destroy me... HOW THE F??

sometimes i would be chasing some one and i saw a guy fly seriously at almost stand still speed shooting at me. no airplane ever created by man was capable of flying at 20kmh i dont care what any one says.

some one please tell me some helpful hints and tips for landing my ammo on target and how not to let people outfly me. oh and another thing. i have seen people with aircraft spititng white and black smoke and they still out manuver me... HOW?? how is a broken plane able to be so fast and agile?

this is on arcade mode. BTW... but even though its on arcade. i should be able to shoot some one down in 20 minutes. the score board would like like this

8
5
3
0
0
0
0

so i know im not alone....

In arcade, the damage does not affect the behaviour of the plane so much. It is almost: either he is dead, or he is alive and very much kicking.

Most of the 'strange' things you describe are explained with one word; 'arcade'.

A plane flying at 20km/h is not possible no, but in arcade, stalling is near impossible, thats why it still 'flies' at 20km/h.

try playing on realistic online, or just try it out in single player. I think you will see most of your problems will disappear right away

Majic, LRN2FLY!!!

Nah, just kidding! I agree, you've really got to give up on Arcade and play Realistic at a minimum to get the most out of this game. I'm hoping that eventually more people start playing Sim, because that's where you'll really begin to see boom 'n zoom tactics come to life, because nobody will have a big red arrow on their screen to let them know you're sneaking up on them.

This is entirely possible in game and in real life although very risky during combat. Simply fly vertical until the aircraft loses speed and stalls, then just give it full rudder to swing it 180 so the nose is pointing straight down. I forget the name of this move, I believe it's a hammerhead or something similar.

I play realistic and suffer from this everytime i play online! i know what im doing but it just seems like im firing rubber bullets all the time. Dont know whether its lag or what but its very very frustrating.

Play simulator, then you'll never notice your bad gunnery because you're too busy trying to figure out who the **** is shooting at you and where from.
Works for me.

As for arcade aiming, aim infront of the leading cross, because of the lag you will miss the plane if u aim at the same place u would do in singleplayer.
There are also some people around with lagswitches, had a couple of em yesterday they look like they stop in midair then u fly em by and then they dont lag anymore and shoot u down with ease.

Hammerhead it is. You're very prone to spinning when you try this though, so it's a little tricky. Unless you're on Arcade ofc.

Be careful not to get too over-excited for Realistic. It's definitely not gonna solve all your problems right away ;). It'll require some practice, especially with leading the target, so expect to miss quite a bit still. But at least when you hit something you might actually notice it from your target's movements. Especially Spits are devils to fly when hit in a wing.

Not sure if this may be part of the problem, but it also depends on your distance away from the target you are shooting at. Bullets do more damage per hit the closer you are to the target. Far distances may hit, but not do near as much damage per bullet.

Do you have any proof of this? It makes sense, but I have shot people to flames with relative short burst from 1.0km (although mostly lucky hits). It might just seem that way since it's harder to hit someone further away, so you'd think the bullets do less damage.

I dont think this can be proven, except by a dev telling us if damage decreases over distance.
For me it is even still unclear for the IL-2 PC version.. and no one seems to know for sure.

From experience I would say that it does matter. The change of killing someone with a short burst over a short distance, is way bigger than over a long distance. And with this I mean, hitting the whole burst in both cases.

But still it depends on where you hit them.. if it was the cannon or MG that hit.. I dont think we as players, can ever prove with 100% certainty, if it is true or not. not without a dev

I agree. I was just wondering ;). Maybe something to post on the dev's forum?

Is this even possible with a console game? And is this on XBoxLive or PSN?

Yeah its a bitch in cod4 as well, you can buy modded 360 controllers with the extra switch (plus far worse in Halo3).
