View Full Version : First P51 Campaign Mission Bugged?

I've just had my third attempt at this mission on simulator. The first attempt I quit because like a fool I accepted the side mission - to help the tank escape, but I have better things to do than spend the next 57 years strafing German tanks with a machine gun. Can you even kill a tank with machine guns? I resorted to using my plane as a missile, but after about 20 minutes of that I got bored as well.

So I restarted the mission, ignored the side mission and killed all the fighters harassing my transports. Then the transports just flew around in circles over the target city. After about an hour of this I got bored again and restarted because there was nothing to defend the planes from.

On my third attempt, after killing all the fighters again, the transport planes didn't even bother flying to the target city. They just flew backwards and forwards on a north-south vector about 20 klicks east of the city.

So what exactly do I have to do to pass this mission? I've done it on realistic, but can't remember doing anything particularly special. Is it bugged or is there something I'm missing? Do I need to take out the ground targets around the city? They aren't yellow targets, so presumably they're not important to the mission...

Yes you can take a tank out with the P-51 guns.

You can take out the tanks with the guns without many probs, its just difficult on sim seeing them. Though....

in this mission i dont think it was ALL the tanks to take out, their was 3 scattered about and once you see them then its pretty simple.

Now... transport planes

they will do what they have to do, then the mission objective changes to securing some packages that were dropped? is this the right mission? been a couple of weeks since i played it so im a bit unsure.

IF you cant progress, then maybe theirs a target you have missed? Hope someone cclarify this up for me a little more.

Update for anyone who has had a similar issue on this mission...

It did appear it was bugged somehow. I did it again last night, and after killing just 2 fighters, the cargo planes dropped their cargo and the objective then changed to inspect each cargo drop and destroy a German unit by each one.

This simply was not happening before - the mission just got stuck on the "defend the cargo planes" and never moved on. If this happens to you, I suggest rebooting the game from scratch and trying it again...

Well I didn't had that problem, but I spend 20 mins too, looking for the ground targets especially for the third dropping zone.

There is only onr target to find and it doesn't even bother fire to reveal its position.

I think I've got a worldwide record of destroying Trees, Ground brown Stains, Houses... etc in that mission.

I highly recommend to do it in realistic mode especially if you have a SD TV like me lol

I originally did it in realistic without any problem, but made this thread based off several simulation attempts.

It's actually pretty easy when the mission condition triggers fire properly :) All the trucks are fairly out in the open. Admittedly I rejected the side mission of shooting all the tanks at the start...

I've found an issue with this... and we're talking about "Nuts," correct?

I played this on realistic last night and killed all of the ground targets. The transport planes were circling above Bastogne, yet I noticed there were 3 C-47's way off target on the map. I went to investigate and noticed these 3 transports were flying at approximately 10,000 feet... doing nothing.

I was a bit aggravated at this point, so I decided to issue my own court martial to the pilots and navigators on these planes (meaning, I shot them down). As soon as those 3 planes were wiped off the map, the next objective kicked in immediately.

Take a look and see if any transports have strayed from the rest of the pack. That might be the issue... but good luck finding them on simulator (I get to try this over the weekend).

Yeah I think that's the one.

You can tell something is not right with this mission almost straight away, because if you fall in behind the transports and watch them, it looks like the entire formation starts doing a barrel roll. But then half way through they will all snap back to level flight.
